A “lunar ark” hidden contained in the moon’s lava tubes might protect the sperm, eggs and seeds of hundreds of thousands of Earth’s species, a gaggle of scientists has proposed.

The ark, or gene financial institution, can be safely hidden in these hollowed-out tunnels and caves sculpted by lava greater than three billion years in the past and can be powered by photo voltaic panels above. It might maintain the cryogenically preserved genetic materials of all 6.7 million recognized species of vegetation, animals and fungi on Earth, which might require at the very least 250 rocket launches to move to the moon, according to the researchers.
