Q&A: The UAE reaches Mars this week with ‘super exciting’ Hope mission

On Feb. 9, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) House Company goals to efficiently convey its first interplanetary mission into orbit round Mars.

The Hope mission, which launched in July 2020, is designed to spend one Martian 12 months (687 Earth days) learning the Red Planet’s mysterious atmosphere. If the Hope mission survives its 27-minute deceleration burn and completes its Mars Orbital Insertion (MOI) maneuver, the UAE will turn out to be the fifth entity to efficiently attain Mars, after NASA, the Soviet Union, the European House Company and India.
