Based mostly on work completed in 4 earlier workshops and different associated actions, contributors on this workshop developed three architectures that span the vary of believable choices for human missions to Mars, with every of those missions main finally to crews that will be away from Earth for roughly 1,000 days.

The primary state of affairs entails sortie missions, with a two-week keep on the floor.

The second idea is a semi-permanent base or “discipline camp” on the floor, with a keep of a 12 months and a half, and is analogous to early Antarctic exploration.

The third idea is a sustained, everlasting habitation analogous to present Antarctic exploration, setting the stage for potential settlements.
